35/65R33 OTR Tyres — L4 & L5 for Mining, Quarry and Underground Loaders
The 35/65R33 is a specialist OTR tyre size designed for large wheel loaders and underground LHD loaders operating in mining, quarrying, and heavy construction. It is one of the largest radial loader tyre sizes available, with an overall diameter of approximately 82 inches and a load rating of up to 61,500 lbs at working speed. Compatible machines include the Caterpillar 988G, 988B and similar large production loaders, the Komatsu WA600, and comparable ultra-class wheel loaders in underground and surface mining operations. Available from Michelin, Bridgestone, Maxam, Techking and Westlake in L4 and L5 tread grades.

L4 vs L5
What's the difference?
OTR tyres for wheel loaders are classified by tread depth and application severity. The 35/65R33 is available in two main grades:
L4 (Moderate Traction) - A deep-tread tyre designed for general quarry and construction loading. Good balance between traction, wear resistance and heat generation. Suitable for load-and-carry cycles on mixed surfaces. Bridgestone VSNT L-4 is a well-known example.
L5 (Extreme Traction) - Maximum tread depth for the most severe conditions: underground mining, hot slag, granite quarry, scrap handling and tunnel operations. Significantly longer wear life in aggressive environments.
Michelin XTRA POWER L5, Bridgestone VSDL L-5 and Michelin XLD D2 L5 are typical L5 options.
For underground LHD (Load-Haul-Dump) loaders, L5 is generally the minimum recommended tread grade due to the abrasive nature of underground surfaces and the inability to reduce operating speeds.
Alternative size markings for 35/65R33
The 35/65R33 tyre appears under several alternative notations in purchasing
systems, chain catalogues and tyre protection equipment lists:
- 35/65R33 - Primary notation, international standard
- 35/65-33 - Hyphen notation, also used for radial tyres
- 3565R33 - Without separators, common in chain and accessory specifications
- 35-65R33 - Alternative hyphen format
The size indicates a tyre width of 35 inches, an aspect ratio of 65%, and a 33-inch rim diameter. No direct metric equivalent exists — this is an inch-based OTR size without a standard metric counterpart.
Compatible machines
The 35/65R33 tyre is used on ultra-class wheel loaders and underground LHD loaders in surface mining, quarrying, and underground operations. Common fitments include:
Surface wheel loaders — Caterpillar 988G, 988B. Komatsu WA600. Comparable ultra-class production loaders in the 50–60 tonne operating weight range.
Underground LHD loaders — Large underground loaders in mining operations requiring maximum tyre protection and tread life in confined, abrasive conditions.
Applications — Open pit mining, granite and marble quarries, hot slag handling, scrap yards, underground tunneling and mine development.
Always verify tyre fitment with your machine manufacturer's specifications before ordering. Contact us with your machine model if you require confirmation.
